PMC Planning to Revise Passing Marks Percentage for Dental Students
According to the media news, Pakistan medical Commission PMC consider revising the current passing percentage of the Medical & Dental College Admission Test MDCAT. PMC is going to reduce the percentage from 65 percent to 55 percent to avail the admission to the Public and Private Medical Colleges.
As per the decision made in a meeting of the Medical and Dental Council chaired by the PMC President, candidates who score 55 percent marks in the MDCAT can apply for admission. However there is yet no official notification issued in this regard, but sources told that this decision is taken because of the fewer admissions in the BDS last year as compared to the previous year’s statistics. Earlier passing marks percentage was 65 percent which will be revised to 55 percent.
Students also protested against the high percentage in the MDCAT. This decision can be coupled with this reason also. The MDCAT 2022 will be conducted online from 7 to 30 September 2022 and passing the exams is mandatory to apply for admission to the medical college. The percentage for MBBS ( Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery) will remain the same.
The PMC has also approved minor changes to the MDCAT curriculum weightage of subjects. The changes in the weightage of questions from the MDCAT curriculum are, Biology 32-34 percent, physics and Chemistry 26.5-27 percent, English – 9-10 percent, and Logical Reasoning 3-5 percent. The next MDCAT will consist of 210 questions based on these percentages.
