Punjab Govt Decides to Recruit 30,000 Visiting School Teachers
According to the media reports, the Government of Punjab is all set to recruit 30,000 visiting school teachers to meet the shortage of teachers across the province.
Punjab Education Department ( PED) is facing a shortage of 115,000 teachers. The major recruitment of educators was done in 2018. In the PTI Government, 400-500 teachers were appointed in only two districts Murree and Mianwali.
Pakistan Tehreek-Insaf PTI Government also changed the recruitment method and made it necessary to pass the PPSC exam for such recruitment.

The PTI government also introduced College Teaching Interns (CTIs) to fill the vacant posts in colleges and the incumbent government was also advised to introduce CTIs to meet the shortage. The fresh graduates were allowed to apply for the post of CTIs and they were paid Rs25,000 salary per month.
However, SED sources said that the current government is planning to hire thirty thousand teachers and they will pay per lecture.
The government would release additional funds to school councils for the salaries of the visiting teachers. The councils would also generate funds for meeting the needs of the school’s expenditure.
While talking to the media, General Secretary of Punjab Teacher Union ( PTU) Rana Liaqat said that the government should appoint teachers on a permanent base to reduce the shortage as well as reduce the unemployment rate.
In addition, he said, visiting teachers’ salaries will be paid on a daily wage model and it will create more problems for the schools.
Back in 2022, the Punjab government announced a policy offering a premature retirement option to all public schoolteachers over 55 years of age after serving for 25 years. School Education Department ( SED) refused the retirement applications filed by the teachers.
However it is not a permanent solution to meet the shortage, but hiring this many teachers will be helpful for youth and for those who are unemployed.
