Extra Winter Holidays Announced in Punjab
Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi has announced additional winter vacations for students up to class 1 due to the current cold weather situation in the province.
Following the deaths of dozens of children across the province due to pneumonia, Naqvi ordered the postponement of all examinations for this month.
An official notification has been circulated by the Punjab School Education Department. The notification stated the following points.
- All Public and Private schools will observe holidays for class Prep, Nursery, and below till 19th January 2024.
- Wearing a face mask shall be mandatory for all students, teachers, and employees in schools.
- Students shall be followed to wear any warm clothing etc other than uniform for protection against cold.
- Morning assembly and outdoor activities shall remain suspended in schools till 31 January 2024.
- No examination of any kind shall be conducted till 19 January 2024
Official Notification
The Chief Minister said that schools across Punjab will remain closed for another week. Mohsin Naqvi said during an emergency meeting at Children’s Hospital in Lahore today that 8 out of every 10 children are suffering from pneumonia.
Furthermore, he highlighted that a significant number of children who died were children under the age of six months.
It may be noted that earlier this week, Naqvi announced that winter vacations for schools and colleges in Punjab would not be extended further.
