New Fixed Charges on Electricity Bills in Pakistan from July 2024
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has suggested adding fixed charges of up to Rs1,000 to electricity bills for residential customers, starting from July 1, 2024.
NEPRA has sent this proposal to the government for final approval.
The proposed fixed charges will vary based on electricity consumption. Here is the detailed breakdown:
Units Consumed (GWh) | Fixed Charge |
---|---|
301-400 units/month | Rs. 200/month |
401-500 units/month | Rs. 400/month |
501-600 units/month | Rs. 600/month |
601-700 units/month | Rs. 800/month |
Above 700 units/month | Rs. 1,000/month |
Earlier this month, NEPRA announced another increase in electricity costs, raising the basic power tariff by Rs5.75 per unit.
NEPRA declared a roughly 20 percent increase in the uniform power tariff to collect Rs3.8 trillion for 10 power distribution companies (DISCOs) during the fiscal year 2024-25. This move comes as Pakistan negotiates with the International Monetary Fund for a new bailout program.
