Lahore High Court Asks Education Department to Extend Winter Holidays in Lahore

Punjab School Education Department ( SED) earlier announced the winter holidays in Province. According to the official notification from SED, all private and public schools will observe winter holidays from 24 December to 31 December 2022 and will reopen on 2 January 2023 (Monday).

The recent development noticed in regard to winter holidays is that Lahore High Court asks Punjab Education Department to consider the extension in winter holidays due to the worsening situation of smog in Lahore city.

The Lahore High Court ( LHC) Justice Shahid Karim heard the case on smog on the petitions of Haroon Farooq and others. The lawyer informed the Justice that Schools have winter vacations until 31 December( Saturday) , which would be extended and include the first week of January , because children are being severely harmed by the city’s smog.

Justice Shahid Karim instructed the PEMRA to create awareness about smog among the public through different advertisements. People must be aware of how harmful smog is.? In this regard he asked the School Education Department ( SED) for considering the extension of the winter holidays.

Note that Schools in other cities in Punjab will reopen according to the schedule. However, still School Education Department did not give any response to the advice of Lahore High Court.
