Punjab University Appointed New Vice Chancellor All You Need to Know

Punjab University PU officially announced the appointment of new Vice-Chancellor. Engineer. Prof. Dr.Niaz Ahmad Akhtar has been appointed as the new VC of the Punjab University while he replaced Asghar Zaidi. Mr. Asghar Zaidi was appointed in November 2022.

Dr.Niaz Ahmad possesses over 30 years of experience in the relevant field. In his vast career, he worked as Vice-Chairman of the Pakistan Engineering Council PEC. He served as Rector of National Textile University.

During his career, he also served at VC Information Technology University. Previously he was also appointed as VC of Punjab University. The University of Sahiwal and the University of Engineering and Technology UET Taxila also remained under his supervision, as he served as VC for both Universities.

Due to his contribution to Engineering and Technology fields, he was conferred with Sitara-i- Imtiaz in 2015. Punjab University’s official Twitter account took it and congratulated Dr. Niaz Ahmed as taking charge of the new VC of Punjab University.

Although Punjab University gets a new Vice Chancellor, however Academic Staff Association ( ASA) expressed serious reservations over the appointment of D. Niaz Ahmed as the university Vice-Chancellor.

The ASA claimed that this appointment is illegal and against merit. They threatened that they will protest on University premises and will move to court against this appointment.

A few months ago Allama Iqbal Open University also appointed a new VC. Before the appointment, Federal Minister for Education Rana Tanveer has been appointed as the VC of AIOU, but after a month new VC was appointed according to merit. Dr. Nasir is serving as a current Vice Chancellor of Allama Iqbal Open University.
