Maryam Nawaz Unveils Bus Program for Girls’ Colleges
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif launched the Women’s Transport Program, providing 76 buses for girls’ colleges across Punjab.
In the first phase, 19 buses were handed over to women’s colleges. During the launch event, CM Maryam Nawaz met with students, received a bouquet, and invited them on stage. She personally presented the bus keys to the principals of 19 women’s colleges as part of the program’s inauguration.
Additionally, the Chief Minister inspected the buses and reviewed a proposal for air-conditioned buses. Secretary of Higher Education, Dr. Farrukh Naveed, briefed the CM on the initiative, stating that 76 buses will be distributed across Punjab in three phases.
The first phase focused on delivering buses to 19 tehsils in need of transport services, including Bhakkar, Sialkot, Chiniot, Kamalia, Hasilpur, Malakwal, and others.
In the second phase, buses will be provided to girls’ colleges in Nowshera Virkan, Dina, Yazman, Pindi Bhattian, and several other regions by February 2025. This phase also includes Allama Iqbal Town in Lahore, Isa Khel, Raiwind, and Sohawa Girls Colleges.
The third phase, scheduled for March-April 2025, will see an additional 34 buses and coaches distributed across 35 tehsils. Key political figures such as Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, and Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat accompanied the Chief Minister at the event. Other notable attendees included the Chief Secretary of Punjab and various officials.
This program aims to enhance educational opportunities for women by addressing transport issues in underserved areas of Punjab.
