During Punjab Assembly Four and Half Year Tenure Not a Single School Establish in Lahore
During the four and half years of the Punjab Assembly, 3 Governments were established, but not a single new school could be established in Lahore.
According to the details, if we compare the development budget presented in 2018 with the budget presented in 2013 by the previous Government of the Muslim League – N, then the budget has been less. In Buzdar Government, it was announced to establish a hundred Schools in rented buildings in Lahore, but it was withdrawn after a year.
Similarly, the program to start mobile schools in Lahore was also limited to documents and statements. The number of schools in the Provincial Capital was two thousand in 1990 and gradually decreased instead of increasing and as of now the number of schools is currently 1122.
During this period, the number of children in Lahore increased enormously. The N-League and PTI Governments started the second shift plan, but unfortunately, the schools were not effective after not getting the salary on time.
According to the General Secretary of the Punjab Teachers Union, there is a need for at least 3,000 schools in Lahore. The department should also construct additional rooms in the existing schools and release a non-salary budget on time to meet the day-to-day expenses of the individual schools.
Officials of the School Education Department say that the price of land has increased in Lahore at the moment, along with the construction material has also become very expensive. To establish a school huge funds are required. A project to install a second shift in the existing schools instead of building new schools already started.
On the other hand, a New Punjab Assembly was built and inaugurated by then Speaker of the Punjab Assembly Chaudry Pervaiz Elahi in 2021 with a huge fund. The furniture for Assembly is imported from Barma, while the interior design is also imported.
