Govt Decided to Shut Down Utility Stores Corporation

The federal government has decided to close down the Utility Stores Corporation (USC) as part of its efforts to exit non-essential business activities, according to the Secretary of Industries & Production. This update was provided to the Senate Standing Committee on Industries and Production during a session on Friday.

The secretary confirmed this decision in response to Senator Saifullah Niazi’s question regarding the future of Utility Stores.

The Secretary further elaborated that steps are being taken to relocate the employees of Utility Stores Corporation to other government departments. He also mentioned that the government subsidies provided to utility stores create market imbalances, which is another reason behind the decision to close the corporation.
